President Museveni tasks youth to fight corruption through proper channels.




The International Youth Day was designated by the United Nations to be held annually on 12th August.

While marking the day in Uganda, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his call to the youths to fight corruption through proper channels.


“Avoid and fight corruption. You don't have to go on the streets and riot, you fight corruption by following up government money and know how it's being spent. Know the figures and in case there's some misappropriation, write and report to the RDC, if the RDC doesn't act, we have got other channels,” he said.


The President made the remarks yesterday while officiating at the International Youth Day Celebrations held at Soroti Core Primary Teachers' College, Soroti District. The celebrations ran under the theme: “Skills Development for enhancement of youth opportunities”.


The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Mr. Balaam Barugahare in August while I’m parliament said that districts were guided to observe celebrations mark youth days.

While making his speech at the youth day in Soroti said that such functions give leaders an opportunity to account to the community what they have done.



“Celebrating the day allows political and civil leaders to give accountability to the youth as well as the whole country on what governments has done and plans to do” he said


The minister commended the organizers of the event which he said included the line ministers, departments, civil society organizations, the development partners among others.


Minister Balaam added that through government programmes towards social-economic development, the youth can now exhibit what they have done and continue to do for their personal development .


The International Youth Day is commemorated every year on 12 August, bringing youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrating the potential of youths as partners in today’s global society. The celebration attracted various dignitaries including political leaders, clergy, CSOs, the community leaders, the youth among others.


Minister Balaam added that through government programmes towards social-economic development, the youth can now exhibit what they have done and continue to do for their personal development .
