URC@60: Uganda Red Cross inks a renewed MOU with Eco-Bank Uganda to enhance humanitarian impact.

On 31st July 2024, the Uganda Red Cross Society together with Eco-Bank Uganda signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at leveraging Ecobank’s expertise in financial services to strengthen our operational capabilities, enhance our disaster response initiatives, and improve access to critical resources for vulnerable populations.
In the MOU they will explore opportunities for joint programs that focus on community resilience, disaster preparedness, financial literacy, and health services.
At a press conference held at Ecobank Uganda offices, the two institutions laid out a 3-year plan to guide the collaboration.
The Secretary General of the Uganda Red Cross Society, Robert Kwesiga, said that as Uganda Red Cross reflects on 60 years of delivering humanitarian assistance to people in Uganda, the MOU the Uganda Red Cross sealed ties with Eco Bank is a renewed collaboration agreement to enhance the humanitarian impact of the Ugandan Red Cross Society as well as strengthening collaboration with Ecobank Uganda.
“The MOU marked a significant moment in our efforts to enhance the humanitarian impact of the Ugandan Red Cross Society as we further strengthen our collaboration with Ecobank Uganda. The Red Cross has a long-standing commitment to alleviating human suffering and promoting the welfare of communities around the world. As we come together to sign this memorandum of understanding, we are solidifying our commitment to a cause that touches the very core of our society."
Mr. Robert Kwesiga added, “It is imperative that as we face all these humanitarian challenges, we remain agile and responsive while leveraging innovation and collaborations to meet the most critical humanitarian needs of the people we serve. I thank Ecobank for taking the lead and signing off this partnership, where we will work together to address issues affecting humanity.”
MOU signing was witnessed by Ms. Irene Nakasita the Red Cross Director Communications, Resource Mobilization, and Partnerships, and Ms. Hellen Luyima, Eco bank’s Head of Corporate & Investment Banking.

Ms. Irene said “By combining the strengths of the Red Cross and Ecobank, we can create a powerful alliance that not only responds to immediate needs but also invests in long-term solutions that foster community resilience. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to countless individuals and communities. We are the Uganda Red Cross Society. We save lives, promote human dignity, and support the livelihoods of vulnerable people”.

Speaking at the MOU signing, the MD Eco-Bank, Grace B. Muliisa said, "At Eco bank, we are committed to driving positive change with the Uganda Red Cross by empowering the girl child, enhancing health and sanitation, and supporting disaster response, we aim to create transformative change."
Uganda Red Cross recently launched, the “Humanity Needs You” campaign at their offices calling for the public partnership to support humanitarian activities through leveraging innovation and collaborations to serve the people.
Uganda Red Cross Society is a humanitarian aid and community services charity in Uganda. It is a national member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement who draws mandates from the Geneva Conventions.
Uganda Red Cross Society is a membership humanitarian established in 1964, by an enactment of the Red Cross Act, Its performs an auxiliary role to the Government of Uganda, to give humanitarian support during times of emergencies while acting independently.
